2023: a decisive year, heralding new momentum in 2024

03/01/2024

The entire SEGALEN+ASSOCIES team is proud to have achieved its 2023 objectives (parity and expansion of our services and geographical coverage). We look forward to working with you again in 2024.

Last year was particularly eventful with the strategic partnership with Renovata & Co. Last June, we decided to join forces to become the transatlantic benchmark for executive search and private equity expertise.

With offices in California, New York, the UK, France and Germany, this partnership aims to create a global platform, offering clients integrated services and access to top talent. Our two firms, which share a common approach and values, form a team of over 100 professionals.

2024…Our resolutions

The year ahead invites us to maintain our course of excellence while setting ourselves new ambitions:

  • Create inspiring connections between companies and talent from around the world through our partnership with Renovata & Co;
  • Promote the accession of women to management committees and provide our clients with the highest level of support in the major transformations taking place in corporate life (CSR, AI, digitalisation, internationalisation, diversity and inclusion issues). In 2023, 48% of our searches resulted in the placement of a woman;
  • Affirm our expertise in leadership services for executives and boards of directors (assessment, audits, mapping, recruitment of non-executives consulting assignments, etc.);
  • Pursue our analyses of changes in key executive committee functions: CEO, CFO, HRD, ESG, etc.; but also on the emergence of new functions within companies;
  • Highlight the success of women leaders in the field of corporate governance through our “3 questions to” series;
  • Support the training of our employees by highlighting their excellence and achievements.

Last year

February 2023 – Press breakfast around a study on Private Equity: new challenges, new skills, new talents

Our daily work with private equity players has enabled us to closely observe and analyse the major trends in this sector, which has gone from being marginal in the 1990s to becoming one of France’s leading private employers in just a few years. That is why we wanted to take the time to reflect on the various issues now facing private equity: the emergence of new asset classes, the race for sophistication and differentiation between competitors, the internalisation of functions that were previously outsourced, the growing attractiveness of the Paris financial centre, etc. The study was presented to the press in February and received a very positive response from the media (Le Figaro, Les Echos Capital Finance, L’Agefi, WanSquare, etc.).

February 2023 – The role of Chief Reputation Officer explored in an article published in Les Echos

In addition to external factors, a company’s standing depends more than ever on its reputation, the personal behaviour and image of its own employees and managers, and so on. Racist comments, overt militancy, etc., the attitude of a single person can be detrimental to the whole group. How can organisations look after their reputational capital? Could the institutionalisation of a new “Chief Reputation Officer” function be a solution? That’s the question posed by Emmanuel Dufour, a partner at our firm, in an article published in Les Echos.

July 2023 – Launch of our “3 questions to” series

We are very proud to have launched the “3 questions to” series aimed at giving the floor to leading women with strong board expertise who highlight current trends in corporate governance.

For the first edition, we interviewed Carole Piwnica, an independent member of the Board of Directors. She shares with us her analysis of the differences in corporate governance between France, the UK and the US, as well as developments in recent years and the outlook for the future.
In September 2023, we then had the pleasure of chatting to Dr Tracy Long, entrepreneur and founder of Boardroom Review. In this article, she shares her analysis of the challenges ahead for boards: the UK governance model, the impact of Brexit, current and future changes to boards, etc.
Finally, in November, for the last interview of the year, we interviewed Alice Foucault, Managing Director at Barings Global Private Finance. In this interview, she explains how Barings manages to remain competitive in a fast-changing European environment and shares her views on the latest macroeconomic trends, ESG and the recruitment of talent in the private debt sector.

July 2023 – Emma (Galatry) Tourneret and Jeanne Segalen promoted to Principal

Once again, our firm is continuing to support its in-house talent. The promotions of Emma (Galatry) Tourneret and Jeanne Segalen are in recognition of their commitment and expertise in providing recruitment advice to investment funds and their portfolio companies.
